| Militants desperate to disrupt peace in J&K: Lt Gen Chachra | | 'Army equipped to meet fallout of US troops' withdrawal from Afghanistan' | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Jammu, Jan 15 : Army Commander Northern Command Sanjeev Chachra has said that Indian Army was well prepared to tackle any situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Lt Gen Chachra said that 2013 remained relatively peaceful barring few incidents where some army jawans laid down their lives in militancy related incidents. He said that even though the last year was peaceful, there was increase in number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan and also number of infiltrations bids made by the militants from across the Border. He said that though Pakistan Border Action team planned many attacks on Indian troops; same were foiled by the alert Indian troops.He said that the terrorist camps across the border were still active and Militants were desperate to carry out terror activities in India. "They have infrastructure and capabilities to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir, but we are actively alert to derail their nefarious designs" said Sanjiv Chachra. He said that army was squaring up to challenges in 2014 and was well aware of possible fallout of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. "We are equally watching the activities and development in our neighboring countries" Said Gen Chachra. He said that army was deliberating upon effective strategy to thwart any infiltration attempts . He also did not rule out of migration of Taliban terrorist and Al-Qaida terrorist into Jammu and Kashmir following withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. On Chinese incursion in Ladakh, Gen. Chachra said that situation on Line of Actual Control with China were normal. "In case there is any issue with China, we have a border mechanism in place to resolve any issue--- recent agreement between India and China had also help in streamlining the mechanism between the armies of two countries" said Gen. Chachra. In a question on terrorist planning to blast 450 MW Baghliar Power Project in Chanderkot area of Ramban District by using river tributary, General Sanjiv Chachra said that militants sitting across the border were exploring new options to enter into Indian side and river route might be one among the several such routes. He said that after finding difficult to enter into Indian Territory, the militants are exploring many other options to enter into our side and added that army was well aware about the possibility of militants exploring river routes. He said that army has already prepared defence mechanism to deal with such situation. He said that army is equally retaliated strongly to enemies' aggression on boarders. He said that security forces are immune towards zero collateral damages in terms of loss to civilian lives. He said that army is targeting top militants commanders and have achieved major success in recent past which includes killing of three militants in Kashmir's Sopore area couple of days ago. He also did not rule out that militants might attempt to disrupt peace during upcoming democratic process (elections) in the state. He refused to comment of on political statements issued by the National Conference leaders including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on withdrawal of AFSPA from state. Earlier Gen. Chachra paid rich tributes to martyred soldiers, Veer Naaries and retired soldiers for their dedicated services. |
