MLC, MLA's native village continues to reel under darkness
Villagers' protest turned violent, several including lens man injured

Anantnag, Jan 19: Veeri, the native village of Member of Legislative council (MLC) Bashir Ahmad Veeri and MLA Abdul Rehman Veeri along with surrounding several villages continues to reel under darkness since last over 10 days, while as the protest demonstration of residents today turned into clashes after they tried to block Srinagar-Jammu National highway during which few protesters including a lens man working with local daily sustained minor injuries.
According to reports, over hundred residents of Veeri, Veeri-Nowbug, Kredzal, Kanderpora, Guri, Aader, Uranhall and Kanzigund assembled on Srinagar-Jammu National near Uranhal Anantnag and started raising slogans against the authorities who according to them failed to repair the transformer of Receiving Station Veeri besides passage of over 10 days.They said that on 8th of this month 6.3MWA transformer of receiving station developed fault due to high voltage, however till 12th January they couldn't remove the fault and failed to restore the supply to the areas which receiving station is feeding."It is irony that after transformer of the station developed snag it took 4 days to department in lifting it," a local resident and social worker, Reyaz Ahmad told Early Times, adding besides passage of over 10 days department failed to repair it.
Protest demonstration turned into clashes after protesters assembled on National Highway tried to halt the traffic playing on the road. Police cane charged protesters who in retaliation pelted stones on the police resulting minor injuries to few.During the clashes between protesters and police, lens man Sajad Munwardi working with a local daily also sustained minor injuries.Locals threatened that they will intensify their protest if authorities' failed to restore their electricity supply in coming couple of days. PDD authorities' here also assured that they will make receiving station functional in coming days.Meanwhile, MLC Bashir Ahmad Veeri claimed that authorities will install the transformer in receiving station with 48 hours. "I met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today and conveyed him the grievance of the area, who later directed Chief Engineer to install the transformer within 48 hours," Veeri said.
