| Verification of voter lists turns out to be farce | | No BLO present at any polling station | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 19: The concern shown by the office of the Deputy Commissioner to verify the names of the voters in revised voter lists turned out to be a farce, as no Block Level Officer (BLO) was present in the polling station for verification and the voters were wandering from one polling station to other to check their names in the voter list. The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu issued advertisement in one of the leading local dailies of Jammu appealing all the voters of Jammu Districts to visit their respective polling stations and contact the concerned BLO and check the electoral roll if their names and other details were entered correctly.' But no BLO was present in any of the polling stations of Jammu District, However, it has also mentioned in the advertisement that the all BLOs will remain present at their polling stations, with the checklist of the electoral rolls between 10am to 4pm till 19th January, 2014. When one of the voter visited the girls higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar, a teacher present in the school informed, "Hundreds of people are coming here to check the voter list, but no BLO visited this place, I don't know why the administration is playing hide and seek with the genuine voters of the state." Sanjay Gupta, a voter of the Gandhi Nagar constituency said, "My name on my old voter card was wrong, so I visited the polling station to check the electoral roll, but no one was present there." "Even the office of the Chief Electoral office does not have the voter list, I think again this casual attitude of the officer will create problems for the voters and the names will be entered wrongly on their voter cards," he added. It is pertinent to mention here that it is a long pending complaint of the voters of Jammu that their names and other details are not correct on the voter list, due to which they are not allowed to cast their votes. But the authorities seem to be taking it for granted and repeating the same mistake again. |
