| BJP confusing minority politics with Art 370 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 19: A subtle though pronounced change of stance by the BJP on Art 370 has hurt its supporters. The change of stance had also given its opponent a handle to dub the party has opportunistic and dropping its stand on minority appeasement. BJP president Rajnath Singh addressing party executive meet in N Delhi had said that if Art 370 had helped in development of the State than they wouldn't oppose it. It is the repeat of what Rajnath Singh had said at a Modi rally in Jammu on Dec 1. The gradual and deliberate change in stance of the party which had held revocation of Art 370 as corner stone of its ideology has not only shocked its ardent supports who have started questioning the real face of the BJP. The party had already stated that it wants debate rather than revocation of Art 370. In an attempt to strike balance, its lower rung leadership is allowed to make statements for the revocation of article. This two way stand has further confused and hurt its supporter and activists, who have started to understand that since senior leadership of the party has changed its stand, this is what is going to matter rather than the statement of lower rung leaders. BJP had achieved the status of first being a ruling party than a principal opposition just because it stood against Art 370 and generated public debate and eventually public mood shifted in its support. The party know feels that it can't been seen as anti-minority (read anti-muslim) since its sniffing victory in the Parliamentary election. In an attempt to establish itself as an exclusive party with an aim to project Narendra Modi as a leader representing all communities and beliefs is shifting gears. However, the party is missing the point that revocation of Art 370 is not anti-minoritism. J&K is not a homogenous Muslim state its composite state with about 35 population of Hindus. Bringing state into national mainstream and rooting out separatism is not anti-Muslim step. Art 370 has alone breed the idea of separate homogenous Kashmir state, which has nothing to do with the rest of Muslims in the State. BJP in missing the points is not only confusing the nation but giving fresh breather of life to separatists tendencies in the Valley. |
