| Ratanpuri seconds Mehbooba, says society being fragmented | | Creation of New Administrative Units | | Et Report
Srinagar, Feb 6 : Echoing the statement of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti that the creation of new administrative units have pitted village against the village in Valley, National Conference (NC) senior leader and Parliament member Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri today stated that the fissures have emerged in the already fragmented society. Expressing deep concern on the continued agitation by the residents of villages and towns feeling left out of the recent exercise of administrative re-organization, Ratanpuri told a news gathering agency that it may take several years to comprehend the benefits of this exercise, but the damage is already more than evident. "We see fissures everywhere in the already fragmented society and one village pitted against the other. Road blockades and dharnas are causing hardships to common man and every day people in thousands are out on the roads. Still the authorities are not taking any cognizance, probably in the belief that time will cool down the tempers and settle the issue." Ratanpuri termed this a very serious issue that can't be brushed aside or wished away. Today also, people in thousands from Kandi areas of Rajpora and Laamni area of Shahoora demonstrated outside DC's office at Pulwama. He urged upon the government to hear these people and redress their genuine grievances. He also observed that people of any area should not be forced to be a part of a new administrative unit if it is farther than the existing head quarter and inconvenient for them. The former broadcaster said that an unambiguous assurance should come from the government that re-organization will not be allowed to create problems or inconvenience for any area or divisions in the society. All that is necessary to keep the society together and avoid inconvenience to any of its section must be done and must be done immediately. He said that if in Ladakh and Jammu adjacent villages, not far off from each other, have been granted new administrative units why can't the government show similar generosity to Kashmiris also. The creation of new administrative units should not aggravate the sense of discrimination in Kashmir, he observed. |
