| Issue of West Pak refugees likely to rock coalition again as Cong decides to get this issue solved once for all | | NC opposing citizenship rights to these poor refugees | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 6: National Conference-Congress coalition has successfully averted the crisis on the Government due to intervention of Congress high command and Union New and Renewal Energy Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, issue of refugees likely to rock coalition in the days to come because Congress has decided to get this issue solved before Lok Sabha elections. Credible sources in Congress said that party has decided to mount pressure on both State and Union Government to solve issue of West Pakistani refugees because these refugees can play crucial role in both the two Lok Sabha seats of Jammu region. Although there is no differences between Congress and National Conference on the issue of solving problems of refugees from Pakistani occupied Kashmir and those from Chamb and other areas yet real problem is on the issue of West Pakistani refugees, who have been demanding citizenship rights. Kashmir centric parties be it PDP, NC or others, all have been opposing citizenship rights to West Pakistani refugees. These refugees have no presence in Kashmir valley and further more they do not have right to cast vote in Assembly elections, so Kashmir centric parties are opposing voting rights to them taking excuse of so-called special status give to J&K. Insiders in the Congress said that party has decided to aggressively take up the issue to address grievances of West Pak refugees once for all. These refugees have more than 1.5 lakh votes in Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat and nearly 50 000 in Udhampur-Doda seat. This time Congress wants to get votes of these refugees in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz has announced a number of times that his party would address grievances of the West Pakistani refugees. A high level delegation of Congress leaders had met Congress leaders including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other leaders to solve problems of West Pakistani refugees. Sources in the Congress said that there is feeling among party leaders like the issue of administrative units, Congress would force the NC to accept the demand of solving problems of West Pak refugees.
