| As countdown for announcing candidates begins, contenders in BJP indulge in negative campaign | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 6: As the countdown for announcing the candidates for Parliamentary elections in State unit of BJP has begun, those in line as strong contenders for the two LS seats of Jammu have begun what can be aptly termed as negative campaign against each other in order to scuttle the prospects of all except self in gaining the ticket for polls. This is albeit happening in a discreet manner with contenders trying to furnish negative details of each other in front of decision making leadership of the party in anonymous style. Sources said that as the date of formal announcement of candidates by Central leadership is drawing near, dirty game of one up manship has begun with contenders writing letters to quarters that matter in recommending and finalising the names . In these letters while they write about the background of the ones from they fear strong competition in selection, along with this detailed background of something wrong happened in the past record, at perosnal and political level proof is also appendaged to substantiate the allegations, sources added. Sources said while in some cases the allegations made so are not totally baseless instead bears some truth in terms of the track record of certain candidates, but the manner this is being forwarded is only to push the rival aside to get the chances for getting ticket for the LS polls. While the phase of allegations and counter allegations has begun and is at peak this time, the front runners are desperately trying project themselves as neat and eligible in all respects to have entitlement for contesting the elections, sources said. On the other hand, reports are also going from the ground level to concerned quarters which suggest what is the mood of the cadres and workers with respect to choice of the candidates to be sent to poll fray. Sources said a vast section of workers , rather an opinion carrying weight is emerging that party should not repeat the candidates this time for a couple of reasons that may not augur well in the contest. Even as the party as also the candidates are counting on Modi wave this time, the workers are not much enthusiastic to canvass again for the candidates who have contested in the past many times unsuccessfully. Though some candidates have performed well in terms of getting good share of votes and given tough fight to rivals in past LS polls, but workers are looking at losing the elections as rejection factor, even as the victory margins have been narrow. Nevertheless, in the toughest race for getting the ticket, the old candidates sources said are relying on the blessings of RSS as they think if the 'report' sent by the leadership goes well, there is nothing that can stop them for getting the ticket. |
