Met office forecasts respite from snowfall, rainfall from Feb 8 onwards

Srinagar, Feb 6 : Stating that the weather in valley is likely to improve February 8 onwards and is expected to remain dry for a long period, predicts state's metrological department today.
While talking to KNS, Director Metrological department Sonum Lotus stated that during the previous days the weather was mostly cloudy and the rainfall and snowfall across valley was witnessed since February 3.
He stated further there will be no rainfall and snowfall for coming days and that weather is likely to improve from 8thof this month.
"After that the weather will mainly remain dry," Lotus told KNS.
According to the reports the rainfall in the summer capital continued till evening while as the reports coming from Kargil informed that it continues to freeze at minus 1 6.8 degree minimum temperature. "Leh, in Ladakh region also witnessed about nine degree drop in the night temperature. It was minus 1 2.4 degree against yesterday's minus 3.9 degree, weather man stated.
Meanwhile there was no respite from the chill, which is likely to worsen as per the prediction of more rain or snowfall in the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir as Kargil continues to freeze at minus 16.8 degree minimum temperature.
A Met spokesman said against minus 8 degree minimum temperature, it was minus 16.4 degrees at Kargil. Leh, in Ladakh region also witnessed about nine degree drop in the night temperature.
It was minus 1 2.4 degree against yesterday's minus 3.9 degree. People in the summer capital woke up to yet another cloudy morning with cloudy sky and icy cold winds. Met spokesman said the minimum temperature was 0.6 degree a slight drop against yesterday.
However, it was two degree above normal. Gulmarag, was coldest in the Kashmir valley with minus 8 degree, considered normal during this period of winter which was four degree colder than yesterday.
Pahalgam, also recorded a major drop in the night temperature owing to fresh snowfall yesterday while Kokernag, recorded minus 3.3 degree minimum temperature against yesterdays minus 0.2 degree.
