| Congress demands district status for hilly areas of Kathua | | | Billawar, Feb 7: Former legislator and Congress leader Thakur Balbir Singh reiterated demand of district status for hilly areas of Kathua district. According to press release, while addressing a meeting of public at Billawar, Thakur Balbir Singh appreciated recommendations of Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) to various areas. He, however, reiterated his demand of creating a separate district comprising Billawar, Bani and Basholi from the existing Kathua district. "Demand of creating hilly district comprising of these areas is genuine and just so government should immediately accept this demand of the people of this backward belt", he said. He said that residents of Bani, Basholi and Billawar have been facing lot of hardship because district headquarters is located far away from their place. He mentioned that distance of district headquarters from Lawang area of Billawar is more than 250 kilometers so demand of the people to create a separate district is genuine. Congress leader said that it is time for people to intensify their struggle. He sought cooperation of the people to intensify the stir. While pointed towards backwardness and poor road connectivity in this hilly belt, Balbir Singh also demanded that a tunnel should be constructed from Kathal Billawar to Bani and demanded for improving conditions of roads and tracks in this hilly belt |
