| Cong rectifies the wrong, wants portfolio back | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 7: The Congress party has did the damage control by seeking resignation of the Health Minister is sure to ensure return of the portfolio so that it does not remain with the Chief Minister for long. The decision to seek resignation of the Health Minister was taken immediately by the party high command fearing serious political repercussion if it was delayed. The party high command directed the PCC president to communicate to the Health Minister who tendered his resignation. "The resignation has undone the political fallout of the incident. Party knew that it would be used against it especially in the elections. Though party had some reservations but it decided to ask for the resignation," said a Congress Minister. The incident happened at a time when Congress had already taken the sheen off the National Conference 's claim of being solely responsible for the creation of the new administrative units. Now that party has done its part it's now also trying to ensure that the health portfolio is given back to the party and not kept with the CM himself for long time. Party has decided to bring pressure on the CM from the party high command to do the same. "Omar had kept first R&B and then Education Ministry with it for quite long. Despite the fact that then R&B Minister was given clean chit. Omar was more than keen to restore portfolios of Sajjad Kitchloo even on the basis of the interim report and he should do the same now also," said a Congress Minister. Congress Ministers have an apprehension that CM may not give back the portfolio to the Congress as it's an important Ministry directly connected with the people . There is concern in the party that Omar may use every delaying tactics. "It's an important Ministry and NC was not happy in giving it to the Cong. But now they will use this as an opportunity to keep it with them. However, we will ensure that the past is not repeated and give back portfolio to the party very soon," said a Cong Minister. |
