Congress wants thorough investigations in Khan's case
To retain Khan's portfolio

SRINAGAR, Feb 7: Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz today termed the allegations of molestation leveled against Congress leader Shabir Khan as 'an unfortunate incident'.
Talking to a local news agency, Soz said that since the case is subjudice law will take its own course. "The party high command has already asked him to step down and the matter should be thoroughly investigated so that the truth comes out."
Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders while reacting to the molestation accusations against Khan stressed that the case must be investigated thoroughly so that truth comes to fore. Congress spokesman Ravinder Sharma said the principles of natural justice demand that Khan must resign and he did what his party asked him to do. "Now Khan has stepped down as the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Law must take its own course."
When asked that speculations galore that his name is being considered as a replacement of Khan's portfolio, Sharma stated that he has no knowledge about the same and neither his party high command has intimated him about it. "I know nothing about this issue, the decision lies with the high command."
Congress Vice President and MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga while stressing that the case must be investigated deeply so that truth could be revealed before everyone, said that the image of the Congress party in no case will be affected by the incident. He said it is the State Congress that asked Khan to step down. "It was Congress that asked Khan to resign and he complied with the orders, now the FIR is there and law should take its own course as no one in the state is above law."
Meanwhile, several names for the replacement of Khan's Ministerial portfolio are being discussed within the Congress party and the senior leaders are advocating a name of a leader belonging to state's Jammu region. "If Khan's resignation is accepted by the Governor then there are some names that the State Congress is considering for Khan's portfolio."
