| High command asks State unit to keep distance | | Shabir's misdeeds spoils Cong plan for Rajouri | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 7: The alleged molestation incident, which forced Minister of State for Health Shabir Ahmed Khan to put his papers, is likely to change political equation in border district of Rajouri where Congress has a big stake. Congress leadership in the State was expecting to win at-least three out of total four assembly seats Rajouri district but this episode has crumbled the entire plan of Congress party. Although charges against Shabir Ahmed Khan, a Pahari leader of Rajouri, are yet to be proved, it is very much clear that opposition parties as well as coalition partner National Conference would this exploit this episode to corner Congress in Rajouri district. Congress leadership was eying on all the four assembly segments of Rajouri district namely Nowshera, Kalakote, Darhal and Rajouri. Party had already prepared a blue-print to win all these four seats. In 2008 assembly elections, Congress had won only Rajouri assembly segment but this time party was expecting to win atleast three seats by projecting Shabir Khan as Pahari leader but this episode has spoiled all game-plan. Opposition parties would exploit this episode in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and Congress leadership would face difficult task to counter opposition attack. Credible sources in the Congress said that high command has taken very serious note of the whole episode and asked state leadership of the party not to compromise on this issue. Congress high command is very much aware that any favour of Shabir Khan at this juncture would give an opportunity to the BJP to exploit this issue at national level. So the party high command has asked state unit to keep away from Khan's misdeeds. Credible sources further said that high command was already not happy with the performance of Shabir Khan because during his tenure corruption was rampant. |
