| Govt decision on new AUs half-baked: Hamid | | State facing chaos, unrest | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 13: Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and coordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency, Abdul Hamid Choudhary today accused coalition government of sleeping over matters of public importance for five long years and announcing sops including creation of new administrative units at the fag-end of six years term. This delayed decision has created complete chaos and unrest and people are protesting in almost every nook and corner of the state. In his statement, Choudhary Hamid said situation has reached such a stage that even those who had been appreciating government for creating new administrative units are themselves seeking more such units for their constituencies and regions. The chief minister too has joined their chorus and admitted that certain areas have been left out for which an experts committee also stands announced. Those who were singing in praise of the government and had bagged maximum share are now talking of more administrative units for different parts of the area. These developments indicate that decision to create new administrative units were half-baked and taken in haste. The cabinet sub-committee that toured different parts of the state could not assess gravity of situation or listen to people's popular demand and also misguided chief minister on the subject, he accused. Creation of administrative units, Choudhary Hamid said had always remained a calculated process after assessing population, area, financial implications, need, accessibility and demand. The coalition members, however, took this as a political opportunity before elections and went to take on half-baked decision without caring for finances as well as demands of people of some far off areas. |
