| 3 Panchayat Halqas for 40 families in Baramulla district | | Unbelievable! | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Feb 13: At a time when the entire opposition in Jammu & Kashmir has raised alarm over the recently created administrative units in the state, a glaring discrepancy with respect to the clubbing of families within a particular village has come to the fore. More than three dozen families living in a particular locality in North Kashmir's Baramulla district have been clubbed with three separate Panchayat Halqas. The residents of the locality are at loss and they don't understand the logic behind this irrational clubbing. Forty families of Riddi Mohalla of Trikolbal village in Pattan area are quite frustrated since they have been clubbed with three Panchayat Halqas. While 22 families have been clubbed with the Kripalpora-Payeen Panchayat Halqa, 12 families have been clubbed with Hanjiweera-Payeen Panchayat Halqa and the rest six families have been shown to be a part of Gund-I-Ibrahim Panchayat Halqa. "It seems the state government more so the district administration has been lost in oblivion. Without applying any mind, the people at helm have clubbed us with three different Panchayat Halqas. Generations have suffered in the past and many more generations would suffer if the corrective action is not taken at the earliest," said Ghulam Ahmad Sofi, a senior resident of Riddi Mohalla. The residents of the locality are quite upset with the mainstream politicians saying that their case has never been addressed despite the numerous difficulties being faced by them. They said the mainstream politicians could have easily mentioned about this discrepancy while taking part in the assembly proceedings in the past or present. "As on ground there is no government and people have been left at the mercy of the Almighty. We are the worst sufferers with no solution in sight as on date. Our MLA namely Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari could have easily solved our problem but for that he had to take certain pains, which he never did. We are caught in between devil and the deep sea with nobody ready to provide us relief," said the residents while sharing their views with Early Times. Terming the clubbing of the people of their locality with three different Panchayat Halqas as absurd the residents say that any developmental work would not yield positive change due to the practical difficulties involved. They said that there have been clash of interests in the past and as such the locals in these areas have suffered. "Hanjiweera Payeen is five and half kilometers away from our locality while as the distance to Kripalpora Payeen is five kilometers. Gund-I-Ibrahim is the nearest Panchayat Halqa among the three as it falls three kilometers away from our locality. The decision-makers should have applied their mind at the time of delimitation but Alas! That is not the case," said the residents. The residents said that since Gund-I-Ibrahim is the nearest Panchayat Halqa among the three Panchayat Halqas ideally they would like to be clubbed with that Panchayat Halqa. They say that if it is not possible then they should be clubbed with the Zadi Mohalla since that too falls near to us. |
