Assures full cooperation to police in 'sexual' assault case: Shabir Khan
2/13/2014 11:30:02 PM

Mustansir
SRINAGAR, Feb 13: After remaining in hiding for almost a week former Minister of State for Health (independent charge) Shabir Ahmad Khan today appeared before the enquiry team of Shaheed Gunj police station here. Khan was questioned inside the police station in the case of alleged sexual assault on a lady doctor.
Today's development comes after Wednesday's breather to Khan by the High Court that granted him interim bail after producing a surety of Rs. 25,000. Interestingly, despite being no more the minister, Khan enjoys the status of minister as he drove in an Ambassador Car from Srinagar Airport to Circuit House here and then from Circuit House to Shaheed Gunj Police Station.
Sources told Early Times that Khan was questioned for more than one hour at the police station and then let free. The High Court has directed him to fully cooperate with police in the investigation process and not to leave the state unless the case is not taken to its logical conclusion.
"The former minister assured the investigation team of full cooperation and told them that he will remain available for the investigation process. He assured full cooperation and said that he is not guilty and is being implicated in a false case," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that in his bail plea Khan had said that he is being blackmailed by the lady doctor. He pleaded that since the husband of the lady doctor is a top separatist leader he was asked to shower benefits that would go against the spirit of nationality. The lady doctor had alleged that Khan kept her waiting for hours and then tried to molest her in his office Chamber in Srinagar in the last week of January.
Talking to media persons at Circuit House, Khan said that he is innocent and would follow the orders of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in letter and spirit and cooperate with the investigation. He termed the allegations leveled against him as baseless and said that he expects fair deal from the Court.
"My political image has been spoiled. I was not absconding but in touch with media. Who told you I was hiding but was in touch with media and my statements appeared in a section of newspapers. I talked to some media men on telephone and was not at large," said Khan.
Khan said that every accused has a right to seek bail and that after securing the bail he is in the summer capital to present before the police so that the investigations are carried out in right manner. He said that some enemies in the political circles are hatching a conspiracy against him adding that he would defeat the designs of such people.
