Special allocation for daughters, HIV, Cancer patients

Under its social initiatives in the budget presented by the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, the some major decisions taken by the state Government including enhancement of financial assistance for the girl students under 'Beti Anmol' Scheme, 'War Veterans', earmarking funds for orphaned children diagnosed with HIV/AIDS besides cancer patients.
While making the announcement during budget speech, Rather said the amount of financial aid for girl students has been enhanced from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 from the next fiscal besides benefits of the scheme 'Beti Anmol' has also been extended to the girl students hailing from the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families living in all the blocks of the state.
"I propose to enhance the amount of financial assistance for girl students under Beti Anmol from Rs 5000 to Rs 10000 from the next financial year," he said.
Finance Minister also proposed annual allocation of funds to the tune of Rs 1.40 crore for the benefit of unfortunate persons including the orphaned children who have been diagnosed as victims of HIV/AIDS.
Rather said, "presently, they do not receive any assistance from the government…. As a first time initiative, I propose to make a special annual allocation of Rs 1.40 crore beginning from the current financial year for unfortunate persons including the orphaned children who are suffering from HIV/AIDS."
Rather also announced Rs 2 crore to be given as grant in aid to the Cancer Treatment and Management Fund with an aim to help needy and distressed patients suffering from cancer.
The government's budgetary provisions also gave 'War Veterans' a reason to smile as their financial assistance also got an increase from Rs 1500 per month to Rs 3000 per month.
"We have a proposal to enhance monthly financial assistance of War Veterans…. For this purpose, I have made provision of Rs 2.30 ccrore in the budget estimates for the next financial year," Rather said.
