SRINAGAR, Feb 13: Legal Metrology today penalized some of the bakers in Srinagar city and imposed a fine of Rs. 12,700 for their alleged monopoly with the customers. In a statement a spokesman of Legal Metrology said that the action was taken following complaints lodged by respectable citizens, against the bakers for adopting unfair trade practice. The spokesman said that the bakers were offering for sale only five rupees Kashmir bread. "The field executives of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Joint Controller Ahsan Ali Khan conducted inspection of bakers in the wee hours and a dozen of bakers for violating Consumer Protection Act/weights & Measure Laws. The markets of Chandapora, Arbal, Harwan, Hazartbal, Sadrabal, Nowshera and Alamgari Bazar were inspected," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that during the inspection, it was found that the bakers are selling underweight Kashmiri bread to the consumers. He said a fine of Rs. 12,700 was slapped on the defaulters on spot. |
