| Srinagar, Feb16; A top HM militant was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Sopore Sunday, police said. Following a special tip-off Police and security forces launched a joint search operation in Bhat Mohalla Seelu in Sopore town this morning and asked the militants to surrender, however, they fired upon the security forces triggering a fierce gunfight during which a militant identified as Mohammad Shafi Sheikh alias Shafi Peer of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed, police sources said. They said the house, in which the militant was hiding, was cordoned off and the ultra asked to surrender. However, the militant opened fire on the security forces and was killed in retaliatory action, the police sources said. Police said that the search operation is still going on in the area. |
