11 dead, 34 injured as overloaded minibus falls into gorge

KISHTWAR, Feb 16: In a tragic accident on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, at least 11 people died while 34 others got injured when an over loaded minibus bearing registration No. JK14 A-9162 on its way from Banihal to Ramban met with an accident at Battery Chasma Ramban.
A 10 month old baby and another minor miraculously escaped unhurt in this tragic accident. As per the details available with "Early Times", the 24 seated capacity minibus with 38 passengers on board met with an accident at around 3.45 PM today. The ill-fated vehicle rolled down into 800 Feet deep gorge resulting in on spot death of 9 persons while two others died enroute to hospital.
As soon as the news of the accident spread in the area, senior police officers and officials of District Administration rush to the spot and shifted the injured persons to District Hospital Ramban from where eight critically injured persons were airlifted to Government Medical College Jammu for advance treatment, while 12 other were referred to Srinagar hospital by road.
Actual cause of the accident is yet to be ascertain. Meanwhile Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PDP pattern Mufti Mohammad Syed, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and several other political and non-political leaders have expressed grief and shock over the loss of life in Ramban accident. All have conveyed sympathy and condolence to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also announced Rs. 1 lac compensation in favour of the next of kith and kins of the deceased persons, beside Rs. 10000 to all the injured persons. The deceased were identified as Ghulam Hussain Wani son of Lassa Wani resident of Saloora Ganderbal, Mehraj Din son of Ghulam Ahmed resident of Soura Srinagar, Molvi Farooq Ahmed son Mohammad Sadiq Mir resident of Saloora Ganderbal, Mohammad Ashraf son of Karim Baksh resident of Noorabad Kulgam, Driver Ishtaq Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganai resident of Batmaloo Srinagar, Ghulam Ahmed son of Ghulam Hassan Malik resident of Dhab Ganderbal, Shabir Ahmed son of Mohammad Yousaf resident of Digdole, Bashir Ahmed Bangroo resident of Tangbagh Srinagar and Farooq Ahmed Mir son Ghulam Nabi Mir resident Kralpora Badgam, while the identity of the two other deceased could not be ascertain.
The injured undergoing treatment at District Hospital Ramban were identified as Nazir Ahmed son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Shopian, Mohammad Rashid son of Faqir Din resident of Rajouri, Ajaiz Ahmed son of Ghulam Qadir, his wife Hamida Begum resident of Budgam, Zakir Hussain son of Ghulam Nabi Naik resident of Chamalwas Banihal, Mohammad Iqbal son of Amdu Sheikh UP District Bagpat, Raiz Ahmed son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Baramullah, Mohammad Amin son of Ahmdu Naik resident of Nachilana Banihal, Mohammad Afzal son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Shopian, Ghulam Ahmed Malik son of Ghulam Hassan Malik resident of Ganderbal, Shabir Ahmed Khatana son of Hajji Mohammad Ayoob resident of Bidder Kokarnag and Tirlok Singh son of Sardari Lal resident of Nowshera Rajouri.
