| Tourism Deptt sleeps on decline in arrivals | | | Sandeep Bhat Jammu, Feb 15: Despite promotional activities by the department of Tourism to attract domestic and foreign tourists to visit the state of Jammu and Kashmir, there is decline in influx of tourist arrivals during last three years in the state of J&K. As per the ES report recently released in Assembly compiled by Directorate of Economics and Statistics government of Jammu and Kashmir, the figures given show decline in domestic and foreign tourist arrivals since the past three years. No doubt the department of Tourism took many promotional activities like appointment of reputed Ogilvy and Mather Pvt Ltd as advertising agency to manage its media plans. A promotional film has also been made, organizing local festivals and sporting events, some of these have become regular annual features attracting tourists from other states e.g. Ladakh festival (Sindhu darshan), Gulmarg snow festival, Navratra festival at Katra and Baisakhi festival at Jammu. In addition to this number of road shows at Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Indore steps like sending official delegations to Bangkok and Malaysia and recently road shows in kingdom of Saudi Arabia led by Tourism Minister himself.
