SRINAGAR, Feb 15: A driver is only expected to drive and not to prepare delicious varieties of pickle at home. However, a driver over the past two decades or so has been preparing mouth watering varieties of pickles at his home. Ghulam Qadir Senoo, a transporter by profession has given up the steering wheel and instead is trying his hands on preparing various varieties of pickles. He has earned name and fame all over the world with orders being placed with him both from within the country and outside. "There are 110 varieties of pickle available at my shop. By the grace of Almighty my pickles have earned the reputation of being the best in the market. Besides vegetables, I also prepare Chicken, Fish and Mutton pickles. These too are in great demand and I am glad people relish my pickles," said Senoo while sharing views with Early Times at his shop in the Nai Sarak area here. The vegetables pickles prepared by Senoo constitute all the important vegetables in the market. These are carrot, radish, lotus stem, garlic, ginger and others. He also prepares pickles of fruits like grapes, cherry, mango and lemon. He has his clientele spread across the length and breadth of the state and there are people within the county and abroad who relish pickles being prepared by him. In the present date Senoo's pickles are very popular in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Germany, Italy and many other countries. The price of the pickles ranges from Rs. 100 to Rs. 500 per kilogram. The vegetable pickles are priced at Rs. 100, Mutton at Rs. 500, Chicken and Fish at Rs. 400 per kilogram. Senoo also prepares Tikki Masala which adds spice to the daily meal of the people. Like his pickles Tikki Masala too has earned name and fame across the country. Senoo had to give up his family business of transport and take plunge in the pickle making business since the transport industry owing to frequent shutdowns as soon as militancy started to show its effects in Kashmir. He has left his past behind and feels satisfied in making the dinner as well as lunch of the people wonderful. Pickles have always been an important ingredient of the meal in India and when there are varieties available there is no looking back. People always like to have a spicy addition to their meal and when they get it they relish each and every moment. In Kashmir this rich legacy is carried out by many people, but Senoo stands out from the rest. He has been busy in making pickles over the past two decades and for this he has won accolades at the local, national and international level.
