| JK Public School celebrates Annual Sports Day | | | Sports Reporter Jammu, Feb 15: The J K Public School, Kunjwani today celebrated Annual Sports Day with much fanfare at the school stadium amidst display of sporting skills and cultural extravaganza. Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmed and Minister for Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla were among the distinguished gathering in the day-long function. To begin with the young students participated in the march past, representing different houses, to the tunes of school band. The School Captain, Sunil Angral led the marchers. There were various dances and drills. The item by toddlers - World Fusion was lauded by one and all. The little ones gave the message of peace and brotherhood. Aerobics display delivered the message of health and fitness. Earlier, school coordinator, Jyotsana Bhalla, enumerated the achievements of young students in the last academic year in her report. She said that students of the school have carved a niche for themselves by scaling the rudder of success in the field of sports and games. She informed the parents about the students who have now started crossing the boundaries of the school, state and nation and started knocking on the international arena. She stressed that education aims at all-round development of the child. The display of folk dances gave a colourful and vibrant picture of the cultural diversities of India. The races were a display of the stamina of the children and were cheered aloud by one and all. The judokas and karatekas put up a wonderful display of discipline. They displayed various kicks, punches and blows - a symbol of power and physical fitness. Vote of thanks was presented by Headmistress of the school, Sarita Koul. She thanked the special dignitaries and the parents for being present in large numbers to encourage their children despite bad weather conditions. Headmistress put in a word of appreciation for all the members of the staff who worked day and night for the show to happen.
ICC U-19 World Cup Deepak Hooda guides India to 42-run win over Pakistan
agencies Dubai , Feb 15: Deepak Hooda claimed a five-wicket haul as India defeated Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC U-19 World Cup played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, by 42 runs. India skipper Vijay Zol won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers Ankush Bains and Akhil Herwadkar got the team to a good start as they added 65 runs for the opening-wicket partnership, post which India lost four wickets in quick successions. But Sanju Samson (68) and Sarfaraz Khan (74) steadied the ship, as they added 119 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership. India reached a total of 262 runs at the end of 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan got to an even better start as their openers Sami Aslam (64) and Imam-ul-Haq (39) laid a solid foundation with a century partnership for the first wicket. Aamir Gani got the first breakthrough for India when he dismissed Imam-ul-Haq for 39. Pakistan then lost wickets at regular intervals, as Deepak Hooda ripped through their middle-order and went on to claim a five-wicket haul. After the brilliant opening stand, none of the batsmen could build partnerships as Pakistan lost the match by 42 runs. |
