Jammu, Feb 15: The 8th edition of the Greater Kashmir Invitational golf tournament started at Sidhra Golf Course, Jammu with Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah making the inaugural tee-off on Saturday. In the event which has become hit among golfers of State and Country around 92 top golfers from JK, Police, BSF, CRPF, Army and Chandigarh are participating. The inaugural tee-off was done by Dr Farooq Abdullah in presence of Provincial President National Conference, Devinder Singh Rana and Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Zaffer Ahmad Bhat. Hailing Greater Kashmir for being in the forefront in the promotion of the golf in the State Dr Farooq said, "If anyone in JK is serious in the promotion of Golf and making JK Golf destinations popular across the World, is Greater Kashmir. "Last time they organized tournament in full golf circuit of Kashmir and promised to take to pother parts of State like Jammu and Leh when the course will ready at later. On the first day of the tournament 36 golfers participated in first round. The players are competing for about 11 prizes The format of the event is stroke play grass and stroke play net. On the second day around 62 golfers will try out their luck for the top honors. Hailing the event and organizers, JK's top Golfer, Shabir Ahmad said, "This sport was always sidelined. Currently our players are bringing laurels for State at National and International level and large part of that success belongs to Greater Kashmir". "The course here at Jammu is good and all the golfers are praising the arrangements made by organizers," he added. The event is being organized by Greater Kashmir Communications Pvt Ltd and sponsored by JK Bank, Jehlum Resorts, Ahad Group of Hotels, 92.7 Big FM,. Simula Group, Jamkash, Kanwal, Jonex, Peaks, Aaakash, CLCC, Khyber and Rehmat. |
