| NABARD conducts SHG-Bank linkage workshop | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 15: The District Development Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Rajouri conducted a SHGs-Bank linkage workshop for Business Correspondents (BCs) engaged by J&K Grameen Bank in district Rajouri under Financial Inclusion. The objective of the workshop was to train these Business Correspondents (BCs) to form Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the district Rajouri. Des Raj, District Development Manager, NABARD, Rajouri in his welcome address informed that linking of Self Help Groups (SHGs) with the banks is a flexible approach to improve the accessibility of credit from the formal banking system to the unreached poor in rural areas. Ramesh Kumar, Assistant General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Jammu and Kashmir Regional Office, Jammu handled the session on formation and credit linkage of Self Help Groups (SHGs) with the banks. The scenario of micro finance in India and in the state of Jammu and Kashmir was also discussed in the workshop. He also shared success stories of members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) who improved their economic conditions by becoming members of SHGs. He motivated the Business Correspondents (BCs) to form Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the villages allotted to them. Arvind Kapoor, Lead District Manager, Rajouri informed that in district Rajouri, there is huge potential in formation and credit linking of SHGs. He motivated the Business Correspondents (BCs) to form SHGs in rural areas of the district. The formation of SHGs will also increase banking outreach in the rural areas. VK Sharma, Senior Manager, J&K Grameen Bank, Head Office, Jammu informed that their bank have engaged Business Correspondents (BCs) to increase banking outreach to the unbanked villages allotted to J&K Grameen Bank under financial inclusion. |
