| Traders angry over Thursday night shoot out, threatens protest | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 15 : Angry over the Thursday night shootout in Warehouse area, Traders today continued their strike against the rising crime level in the city. Traders from different areas today gathered at Warehouse and tried to block the road against the rising crime incidents in the city of temples and failure of police and district administration to check the same. All traders from the concerned areas on Friday assembled at Warehouse and blocked the road alleging the deteriorating law and order situation and barbaric act of the goons in the market. They condemned the shoot-out in which Vipin Kumar of M/S Gauri Shanker Vipin Kumar was injured. "This wholesale Mandi is always visited by drug addicts, goons as well as other anti-social elements during evening hours" they said adding that traders approached the concerned police officers many times but no positive steps has been taken till now. Traders also flayed Power Development Department (PDD) for not providing regular power supply in this Mandi resulting in such incidents. They warned that if the government fails to take action against the goons within the stipulated time the wholesale Mandi along with markets in Jammu city will be closed for indefinite period. President, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Y.V Sharma and President, Jammu Retailers Federation, Yash Paul Gupta extended full support to the Traders Federation of Warehouse/Nehru Market, Jammu. Meanwhile, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana assured the traders that their concerns with regard to Thursday shoot out will be taken up at the appropriate level. Rana met the traders who were on a Dharna against the shoot-out last evening in which one of the trader was injured. He also said that their other issues will also be taken up with all concerned for redressal. Expressing shock over the shoot-out and solidarity with the traders, Rana said there is immediate need of instilling confidence among the people by taking stringent action against the anti-social elements. The protestors led by Rattan Lal Mahajan urged the Provincial President to impress upon the concerned agencies to gear up their personnel in order to instill a sense of security among the people, especially those associated with trade and commerce. On the assurance of the Provincial President, the traders lifted their Dharna.
