JAMMU, Feb 16:- Kashmiri Pandits today held a massive protest in front of Jammu Press Club here against the delay in passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and religious places Bill.
Hundreds of KPs linked to Mandir Committees in valley participated in protest which was organized by Pandit Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust a nodal agency of KP organisations spearheading the struggle for the passage of the Bill.
Raising slogans in support of the Bill the protestors expressed concern over encroachment groups in valley.
They demanded immediate passage of the Bill saying the condition of various shrines in valley is worst and need immediate attention for their renovation and maintenance.
They demanded that the Bill be passed in the current session of assembly. They made an appeal to Government to use its good offices in passage of the Bill which will act a major CBM between community and Government.
The protesters also sought support from all political parties in passage of Bill and fulfill their commitment made with the community in this regard.
The protesters also warned those trusts and committees which are opposing the passage of Bill. They sought their cooperation instead of opposition to community cause saying the passage of the Bill was the need of the hour.
They said the religious places of Kashmir are cultural monuments and their preservation is must for posterity.
It may be recalled that Kashmiri Hindu shrines bill is presently lying with select committee of Assembly for a year. The committee has sought the report and feedback from stake holders before giving its report.
