| PDD in Anantnag fails to utilize SDRF funds | | | Saahil Suhail Anantnag, Feb 19: The power development department has failed to utilize State Disaster Responsive Fund (SDRF) released for overhauling the distribution system which got damaged due to heavy rains and floods on 14th and 15th of August last according to the department's damage report.Highly placed sources inside the department revealed that an amount of 14.49 lacs was released by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag subsequently after executive engineer planning submitted the report. They said that since the day amount lies in the account of Executive Engineer of Power Development department as they failed to utilize the amount. Sources said that officers in each and every department try to keep the money in their bank accounts just to earn the interest.According to the damage report, 20 of 9 meter long poles were broken down, 33 got tilted, 5.5 kilometers of 0.5 and 3.3 kilometers of 0.3 was immediate need of the hour to restore the electricity in whole Sub-Division Bijbehara of Anantnag district while as 20 cross arms and 60 insulators were also damaged in the area of sub-division. An official in the sub-division confirmed to Early Times that out of 20 only 16 poles were issued by the department in last week, evidently proves authenticity of damage report submitted by the department earlier this year. He said similarly damaged conductor, cross arms, pin-insulators were not also issued as per the furnished report by the department till time.Sources said that in Sub-Division Aishmuqam major works from the SDRF fund still remains to be unfinished or haven't been executed till date. "State Disaster Responsive Fund is quick responsive fund being provided to department for quick restoration of essentials or electricity in case of floods or heavy rains. Last year it was flood like situation in Anantnag district and as per the norms department was bound to utilize the funds as early as possible which was unfortunately not done?" An official of the department told Early Times. |
