| Entire PDP legislative party marshaled out of LA | | Walkouts, protests mar House proceedings | | Abodh Sharma JAMMU, Feb 19: Entire PDP legislative party was marshaled out of the State Legislative Assembly as repeated disruption over scores of issues marred proceedings of the House today. As soon as agitated PDP MLA Syed Bashir trooped into the well, Speaker Mubarak Gul directed the watch and ward staff to marshal him out of the House. Irate over the direction of the Chair to oust their party colleague, entire PDP Legislative party barring Mehbooba Mufti and Abdul Rehman Veeri rushed to stop the marshals. This gave an ugly turn to the events and soon there was a melee between the watch and ward staff and the PDP MLAs. However, the marshals managed to overpower the PDP MLAs and soon entire PDP legislative party was marshaled out from the House. Later, Syed Bashir while talking to the press said that he was trying to raise the issue of extreme shortage of ration in his area, but was repeatedly denied the opportunity. "This is shame for this house if we come here to eat food on token given by the house and not raise the public issue," he added. Earlier, the entire PDP staged a walkout from the House during Question Hour demanding that the former Minister for Health who was accused in a molestation case should not be allowed to attend the proceedings of the House. As soon as the House met in the morning, the PDP MLA from Homshallibugh Abdul Gaffar Sofi raised the issue that while the accused Minister was being allowed to attend the proceedings, the IO investigating the case against the former Minister was transferred. Speaker clarified that there was no rule that could debar the former Minister from attending the proceedings of the House. "There are cases against so many MPs, yet they attend the proceedings of the Parliament," the Speaker argued, urging the agitated MLAs to take their seats. Meanwhile, responding to the issue of the transfer of the IO raised by AG Sofi, MoS Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo informed the House that the said officer had completed over three years at the same place and was due for transfer. However, dissatisfied by the response of the Minister, PDP staged a walk out. Just as the PDP MLAs walked out, Er. Rashid, MLA Langate walked infront of the Speaker's chair and reiterated the demand of debarring the former Health Minister from attending the proceedings of the House. Rashid had been raising this demand ever since Shabir Khan returned to the House after getting bail. Speaker urged agitated Rashid to take his seat, but when he did not budge, the Speaker directed the Marshalls to take him out of the House. Rashid was allowed in after Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone requested the Chair. It is pertinent to mention here that Lone and Rashid were seen entering into bitter altercations raising accusation against each other in the ensuing budget session. Rashid' entry in the House of however, was short lived as he again trooped in front of the Speaker's chair expressing his anger and annoyance over transfer of certain members of faculty from the Wagoora college of Agriculture. Dissatisfied over the reply given by the Minister for Agriculture GH Mir over the issue raised by several other MLAs including the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah, Er. Rashid continued to protest in front of the Chair following which Speaker once again directed the Watch and ward staff to take him out of the House. Amidst continued din, the members of the BJP, NPP and the JSM started protesting against discrimination meted out to the refugees of West Pakistan who were deprived of any rights of citizenship and property in the state even after six decades. "Give justice to WP refugees," the protesting MLAs shouted while staging a walk out. |
