Akshay Azad JAMMU, Feb 19: Notwithstanding the claims of state government about reducing Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses to a certain level, the losses are highest among states in the country and double to national average. The documents in possession of Early Times revealed that against the national average of 24 % T&D losses, the Jammu and Kashmir state government has pegged the estimated losses of 53 percent for the current financial year 2013-14, which was more than double to national average of 24 percent. Moreover, Jammu and Kashmir had recorded highest percentage of Transmission and Distribution among other states of the country for three corresponding years including financial year 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12. The state recorded T&D losses of 67.35 percent for year 2009 against the then national average of 25.39 percent, the documents divulged. Moreover, for the year 2010-11, state recorded T&D losses of 63.27 percent, against the national average of 23.97 percent for same year, besides for the year 2011-12, T&D losses were recorded 61.78 percent against the national average of 23.65 percent for the same year. Moreover, for these years, the other neighboring states in North region including Haryana, Himachal Pardesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pardesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Delhi recorded T&D losses, almost half to losses average in Jammu and Kashmir. Haryana recorded 31, 29.66 and 28.58 % of losses for year 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12, while Himachal Pradesh recorded 20.52%, 22.22% and 18.62 percent of T&D losses for the same period which was even less than national average. Punjab witnessed 23.39, 25,10, 23.08 %, Rajasthan 29.99, 27.87, 27.94 %, Uttar Pradesh 33.15, 34.01, 32.35 %, Uttarakhand 25.27, 29.97, 28.67 %, Chandigarh 23.19, 20.25, 23.67 %, while Delhi recorded 22.09, 20.04, 19.32 % of T&D losses for the year 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12. In case of highest number, Jammu and Kashmir is followed by North eastern states including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pardesh but these states had also shown steep reduction in T&D losses in three years. Manipur which recorded losses at 54.66% in 2009-10 reduced the same to 40.45% in 2011-12, while Nagaland reduced the losses from 56.91 % in 2009-10 to 41.53 % in 2011-12. Mizoram had shown reduction in T&D losses from 53.80% in 2009-10 to 47.73% in year 2011-12, while Arunachal Pradesh recorded 48.04 and 46.25 for same corresponding years. Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Chennai, Jharkhand and West Bengal are the states where T&D losses for above said years remained below to national average. |
