24-member Judo contingent leaves for Nationals

JAMMU, Feb 19: A 24-member state contingent today left for participation in the Youth and Junior National (boys and girls) Judo Championship to be held at Dehradun in Uttrakhand from February 20 to February 23, here.
Earlier, the selected probable underwent a fortnight-long coaching camp, followed by the screening conducted by the State Sports Council at the Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
The contingent is accompanied by State Sports Council coaches, Suraj Bhan, Ritika Slathia and PTI BSF School, Rameshwar Singh Jamwal as coaches while Abdul Hamid Khan has been made manager.
The Teams:
BOYS: Anmol Abrol, Naveed Manzoor, Jai Karan Singh, Farhat Gulzar, Idress Saleem, Dheeraj Kumar, Sahil Dogra, Ashutosh Khajuria, Pushap Thakur, Subash Singh, Amir Farooq, Anirudh Sharma, Ashubhankar Baru, Arunesh Sarin and Akshay Choudhary.
GIRLS: Shikha Bhau, Suhasi Khan, Ahana Hamid, Shivali Manhas, Himanshu Kira, Sabiya Shafeeq, Poonam Sharma, Kabra Altaf and Aliza Fayaz.


Semis line-up drawn in Rajiv Gandhi Football tourney

JAMMU, Feb 19: Semifinals position has been cleared with the entry of the J&K Forests, J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) in the last four stages of the ongoing Fourth Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here today.
Other two teams of J&K Bank and J&K Police are already placed in the semifinals. Now, in the first semifinal, J&K Bank shall take on PDC tomorrow at 3 pm. In other semifinal, J&K Police shall lock horns against J&K Forests.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, J&K Forests outplayed fighting Punjab team of Satluj Malpur Football Club 6-2. Making a bad beginning, Punjab club conceded a self goal in the 17th minute providing an opportunity to the opponent to build on.
Satluj Malpur brought an equalizer in the 19th minute through Ravi Judge but only to find men from Forests to take an invincible 3-1 lead. Toufeeq netted the second goal for Forests in the 25th minute, followed the third goal in the 43rd minute.
Entering into the second half with a commanding 3-1 lead, J&K Forests found themselves in trouble when Satluj Malpur successfully converted a penalty kick into goal in the 67th minute.
However, J&K Forests turned offensive and added three more goals to the tally making it a big 6-2 win. Sameer (78th), Toufeeq (80th) and Asrar (89th) were the scorers.
Meanwhile, in another quarterfinal of the day, PDC defeated J&K SRTC 4-2 in tie after the match ended in a goalless draw in the stipulated time. Vishal Kumar, Demenenge, Gulzar Ahmed and Davian David successfully netted the ball from PDC. From SRTC, Shabir Ahmed and Harmanjeet Singh could only convert their kicks into goal while Varun Sharma and Aatif Parves missed.
Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Koushal Kumar, Rohit Kumar Gupta, Suresh Gupta, Kushey Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Moon Stephen and Harneel Singh.
NEXT MATCH: J&K Bank shall take on PDCA at 3 pm in the semifinals tomorrow.


Jammu district faces J&K Police in men's final today
Jammu Blues wins women's Handball title

JAMMU, Feb 19: Jammu Blues clinched the women's title in the ongoing Second State Handball Championship, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Handball Association at Play Field, Shastri Nagar, here today.
In the title clash, Jammu Blues trounced district Udhampur (18-12) by a margin of six points. Geeta and Megha remained top scorers from winning Jammu Blues team.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Jammu Blues defeated Jammu Reds 16-13 while district Udhampur outplayed district Baramulla.
Meanwhile, in the men's event, J&K Police shall be playing against Jammu district in the final scheduled for tomorrow at 2 pm at the same venue. In the semifinals, Jammu defeated district Rajouri 19-13 while J&K Police registered a big 18-09 win against district Baramulla. Earlier, in the league round, four top teams of Jammu district, J&K Police, district Baramulla and district Rajouri qualified for the knockout stages of the semifinals.
