Jammu/new Delhi, Feb 19: Division Bench of the Supreme Court comprising of JJ Dr B S Chauhan, A K Sikri and Justice M Y Eqbal after a brief hearing from the Senior Counsel, Prof Bhim Singh and J&K Advocate-General MI Qadri in a writ petition filed by Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA Panthers Party and Talib Hussain, son of late Haji Yousuf seeking CBI probe in the matter ordered the case shall be listed on March 31.
Prof Bhim Singh, Senior Advocate & Sr. Executive Member of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) made a strong appeal to the court for its intervention so that the custodial death shall be investigated by an independent agency, CBI to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice without any further delay. Prof Singh also maintained that Bedi Commission was only a casual civil inquiry commission whose recommendations were of advisory nature only. The court ordered that the case shall be listed on 31st March, 2014. |
