| Oblivious of ground reality, Mir speaks high of Mubarak Mandi Complex | | Disrespecting CM's directions; parking mess erupts again, pol influence prevails | | ET Report
Jammu, Feb 20 : It is a typical case of political influence over and above the directions of Chief Minister in J&K .
It so happens normally in many cases but Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex stands a glaring instance which substantiates this fact that even Chief Minister's instructions and directions for correcting and clearing the messy scenario prevailing at the historic site are not implemented , not to speak of respecting the spirit in which it was desired to be followed. Messy surroundings on account of unauthorized car parking was cleared soon after the directions came from CM who also happens to be Chairman of the Heritage Society and it gave the monument some grace and dignity it deserved. But it lasted for a short period as political influence overpowered the authorities who brought some order. The situation of messy car parking from all sides has once again come to be seen at the historic monument depriving its glory.
Mention of prestigious Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex came up during the reply given by the Tourism Minister GA Mir in the reply to discussion on grants for his department in which he spoke high of the monument in terms of its historic significance and heritage value, terming it as invaluable gift for the state. This prestige and respect however goes in sharp contrast to what the place is actually suffering from at the ground level. The place stands mute spectator to disregard of directions that came from the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah last year which have been literally thrown to winds. It was during thE ehigh level meeting of the Committee headed by Cm the latter had sought immediate clearance of the historic spot from all vehicles which remain parked round the clock from all sides.
The meeting among all officials and authorities of concerned departments was also attended by the Toursim Minister GA Mir and this direction was specifically noted in the minutes of the meeting as well. The directions were implemented and it was widely circulated that only those vehicles of neighbouring areas due to paucity of parking space would be allowed to park at one corner which would be granted permission through a licence from the Heritage Society.
This licence was actually meant to serve as authentic proof with the vehicle owners who were not more than a dozen, belonging mainly to adjacent mohalla. The system provided some reprieve to Construction engineering agencies busy in renovation works as also to local people . Barricades were put up from both ends to prevent free movement of and parking of vehicles. But this relief proved to be short lived. According to sources the authorities who acted swiftly to bring some order at the place soon started acting in reverse direction upon instructions from an influential politician (An MLA), and gradually all vehicles which were strictly disallowed to enter made their way in very smoothly without resistance from any quarter.
Not only this, it has not become clear till date nor is known at present as who recovers the parking charges and at what rate and where does it finally go at the end of the day. The mess has erupted again , thanks to highest authorities who do not deem it proper to look into the matter. |
