| Govt furnishing irrelevant replies to members' questions | | | Bivek Mathur JAMMU, Feb 20: Making mockery of the State Legislature, the State Government showing utter neglect to important public issues is providing incomplete or irrelevant replies to some of the important questions asked by legislators. In reply to an un-starred question of Ajat Shatru Singh, in the upper house, regarding rising cases of drug addiction in the youth, Government's reply was totally irrelevant. While the member sought to know number of counseling centres and homes set up in the state and funds allocated for awareness campaign, the Government replied only second part of the question and stated that 26th of May has been declared as the drug abuse day in reply to the first part of the member's question. 'On this day, every year the department is conducting awareness camps as a part of the NRHM activities during health melas to disseminate information regarding health hazards associated with drug abuse,' the reply filed by the Government read. The reply further reads that the State Government has earmarked Rs 6 lacs for carrying out Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities which cover other subjects like tobacco hazards and food. The member had asked the question showing concern about the rising drug addiction cases among the youth and the steps taken to punish the drug suppliers, and the initiatives taken for establishing de-addiction centres in the state.
