| Guru ghost haunts pro-Indian Parties | | NC cries foul, Cong demands Afzal's mortal remains | | ET Report
Jammu, Feb 20: All the major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir are playing politics over hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. Parties like National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Congress have adopted a face saving attitude after the Supreme Court of India commuted the death penalty to life imprisonment of Rajiv Gandhi's killers. Though the PDP is still talking on the same language which it used in 2013 when Guru was hanged, but the ruling coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress and National Conference are changing stands every now and then. At a time when elections are coming nearer, NC has started to cry foul in hanging of Afzal Guru with its provincial president for Jammu province, Devender Singh Rana raking up the issue on various news channels. The NC president Farooq Abdullah has also change his stance on the issue. Now, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president's son, Salman Soz has demanded that mortal remains of Guru be handed over to his family. Raking up the issue at present is mere a political stunt as Lok Sabha elections are coming nearer and parties are trying to get people on their side. During past one year, neither of the coalition partners raised any voice of getting back mortal remains of Guru and when elections are coming close, they have started to play politics. Whatever has been done to Guru is a matter of debate but raking up this issue by political parties at present is not a good precedence being set by the leaders who are sent to Assembly and Parliament by people of the state. |
