| Hundreds of families yet to be electrified in Mallikote of Reasi | | PDD officials filing misleading reports of electrification | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Mar 5 : The tall claims of development stand exposed as hundreds of families in Mallikote area of Reasi district have been forced to live in "Dark Age". The government has failed to electrify their houses even in the twenty first century. The irony is that the PDD officials have been filing misleading reports to the contrary. Surprisingly the government has received huge amounts under centrally sponsored scheme namely Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY).However according to the residents of Mallikote, Bani and Baggan officers of Power Development Department (PDD) who are considered close associates of some politicians have filed wrong reports about the electrification of all the hamlets of Mallikote under (RGGVY) while as in reality they (PDD) has only supplied electric poles and wires to some 25 to 30 influential houses holds in Baggan hamlet area and left rest of the work halfway. "We have been deprived of electricity even after government announced that electricity would be provided to every house hold in the area," Bablu Singh, a local resident said. The details reveal that MRE Division Reasi has estimated an amount of Rs 137.50 crore which has been submitted to Power Development Commissioner vide their office letter No CEJTS1256495 dated 28-07-2011 but no any action has been taken by PDD officials and state government anybody so far instead wrong reports of electrification are filed to gain political points. Smelling a nexus between PDD officials and some politicians to, residents of the area said they have registered a complaint in Chief Minister's grievances cell in June last year against one Deputy General Manager posted to monitor electrification work under RGGVY namely K D Chowdhary for filing a fake report about the electrification of all hamlets of Mallikote, but to no avail. The residents said that for the sake of show off of electrification work in all the hamlets earmarked under this programme, everything was done on papers only by PDD officials as when even first phase of work in some areas is yet to began, PDD officials went to the extent of mentioning in their report that electricity was supplied to these hamlets. Taking strong note of the forged report prepared by PDD officials, the residents filed a complaint at Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, New Delhi, which has been given the task to construct infrastructure for RGGVY, under complaint number MPOWR/E/203/0058, who according to locals of the area assured them action against the guilty officials. When contacted one employee of PDD deployed in the area, Chain singh admitted that the electrification work was completed only in some 25-30 homes in Baggan hamlet of Mallikote by PDD under RGGVY and rest of the area was yet to supply wires and electric poles. "We have installed electric poles, wires and a transformer in Baggan Hamlet and the department will very soon supply electricity this hamlet and rest of the hamlets would be covered in near future," Singh said. He also added PDD had spend huge funds for carrying these electric poles more than five kilometers by using manual laborers due to the lack of roads to reach to Mallikote. |
