Lok Sabha elections: Delay in announcing candidates by Cong fuels rumours
3/6/2014 12:02:44 AM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 5: Election Commission of India has formally announced dates for the Lok Sabha elections but Congress party has yet to announce candidates for Lok Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir. It is almost certain that National Conference and Congress would contest Lok Sabha elections in coalition so Congress is likely to contest elections on two seats of Jammu region and one seat of Ladakh but still there is confusion over Congress candidates.
It is believed that Congress would repeat its candidates namely Madan Lal Sharma from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat and Choudhary Lal Singh from Udhampur-Doda seat but till today no confirmation has been made by the Congress. In 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections both these candidates had won their respective seats so it is believed that they would be repeated again but party is not officially making any announcement.
Confusion on announcing candidates for Lok Sabha elections by the Congress party has fuelled many rumours. There are rumours that a senior Congress leader wants to contest Lok Sabha elections from Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha but there is no confirmation yet. Congress leadership wants to retain both the Lok Sabha at any cost so party is not averse of fielding any senior leader who wants to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
Credible sources in the Congress said that party has unofficially given green signal to both the sitting Lok Sabha members to start campaign but there is thinking with in a group of the party that a senior leader who has mass appeal in entire state should be asked to contest election from Udhampur-Doda seat to ensure victory of party on that seat. The sitting Lok Sabha member Lal Singh is also competent enough to give tough fight to BJP but Congress is thinking to field a senior leader to make it sure that party would retain this seat easily.
