Srinagar, Mar 5: World famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other heights in the Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall this morning while in plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, the sky was cloudy with icy winds sweeping the region. Meanwhile met official has forecast rain or snow in the Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours. There was further drop in the minimum temperature at border town of Kargil. A Met department spokesperson has predicted rain or snow in the Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours. Gulmarg, 55 km from Srinagar in north Kashmir, received fresh snowfall on Wednesday, much to the delight of tourists, skiers and other adventure lovers, a hotel owner said over phone. The Met spokesman said the minimum temperature at Gulmarg was minus 4.4 degree, 0.6 degree below normal. "Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar, Machil, Neeru, Sadhna and Razdan passes also received fresh snowfall, he said, adding, "holy Amarnath cave shrine and its periphery besides Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top, Panjterni and Chandanwari on traditional yatra route also received fresh snowfall.' Pahalgam, recorded minus 1.2 degree, a notch above normal. After witnessing above normal minimum temperature of 3.8 degree, more than a degree warmer than Tuesday when it was 2.3 degree, the sun was playing hide and seek in summer capital, Srinagar with icy cold winds continued. Kokernag and Qazigund and Kupwara also witnessed above normal minimum temperature. Meanwhile there was no respite from the cold in Kargil where the night temperature dropped further and settled at minus 11.8 degree against minus 11 degree on. At Leh there was considerable improvement of more than five degree in the night temperature against Tuesday's minus 8.6 degree, it was minus 3 degree, Met spokesman said. |
