| Jat community expresses resentment for not granting OBC | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 7: Expressing resentment against the center government for not granting OBC reservation to Jammu and Kashmir, Choudhary Manmohan Singh President All India Jat Mahasabha J&K said that Jat community of Jammu and Kashmir is feeling cheated. As per press release, Manmohan Singh said UPA govt in its last cabinet meeting approved the inclusion of Jats of 9 states in the central list of OBCs for reservation in central govt jobs and educational institutions. But Jats of J&K state and Punjab State were not included in this order giving reason that the state Assemblies of those 9 states had already granted OBC category status to Jats of their states. He said that the decision has deprived the Jats of J&K from their legitimate rights. He said that Jat community of J&K is underdeveloped as compared to Jats of other state depending upon meager incomes from agriculture they have hardly any other source to compete with others. He said that this itself ascertains the legitimacy of their demand to be included in OBC category and reservation. Capt. Amarinder Singh in concordance with him has written a letter to J&K CM Omar Abdullah on considering the need of such category for J&K Jats and get this issue cleared up in the state assembly and forwarded to central govt to whom the Jat Community has requested to grant reservation as soon as the code of conduct lifts in new Assembly. |
