| Lal may lose Doda-Udhampur for Congress | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 7: The Congress party may face problems by fielding sitting Member Parliament (MP) Lal Singh, from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat. Lal, according to reports is not in good books of the people of his constituency. After last year's Kishtwar violence, Lal Singh was more seen as a man with RSS ideology and less of a secular credential person who stands for the equality and justice among communities. Also naming the victim in molestation case of a lady doctor in which former Minister Shabir Khan was allegedly involved, Lal Singh invited trouble for himself. If Congress party and National Conference goes for the Lok Sabha elections together, they have to cautious as Lal Singh is not acceptable to NC and people of erstwhile district Doda. "We will not vote for coalition if Lal Singh is fielded in the election by the coalition partners. He is much of a BJP person rather having secular credentials. We can compromise on any other person but not Lal Singh," a NC leader told Early Times. He said that Lal Singh never visited areas from where he got votes in 2009 elections. "After losing 2008 Assembly elections from his home constituency of Kathua, the people of erstwhile Doda voted for him in 2009. But now we will not vote for him," he added. Lal Singh is considered to be a close associate of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and he depends on Azad's support to get votes in upcoming elections. But his loose cannon approach towards sensitive things has disturbed his image as a mass leader. Thus Congress may face strong resentment from erstwhile Doda, if Lal Singh is fielded. |
