| Passage of Shrines Bill: More support pours in for KPs' struggle | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 7: The struggle for passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill has not been confined to the Kashmiri Pandits only but more political parties in the State have assured to join the struggle openly. While PDP, CPI (M), and independent candidates openly supported the passage of the Bill, the Jammu based political parties Kranti Dal, Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena (RSS) and Dharmarth Trust Sangarsh Samiti (DTSS) have already joined their hands with some KP organisations demanding the passage of the Bill and constitution of a Shrines Board for the management of Hindu shrines in Valley. However, the dubious role played by NC-Congress coalition on the Floor of the Assembly on March 4 and the opposition by some non PDP opposition parties including the BJP to the Bill stalling its smooth passage has been viewed seriously by some Valley based parties also who have not only demanded the passage of the Bill but also have resolved to join the struggle in this regard. The religious places of Hindus are cultural monuments and heritage place bearing a testimony to thousands years of old rich culture of Kashmir right from the period of world famous King Laltaditya and Awantiwarman said Mir Ghulam Rasool, district coordinator People’s Conference Ganderbal. He criticized the double standards of ruling alliance on the Shrines Bill and accused it of cheating the Kashmiri Pandit community. Mir said that Pandits are an important component of Kashmiri culture and People’s Conference is fully with their demand in this regard. He criticized the BJP's role in Assembly and took the ruling coalition to task for exploiting the community. Mir said PC is with the pandits in this demand and Party demands a high level probe into the sale of land belonging to Hindu shrines in Valley. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and candidate for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency Dr Raja Muzaffar has also assured full support to Kashmiri Pandits in their struggle and accused the BJP for exploiting the religious sentiments of the community for last 25 years for its political interests. Dr Muzaffar said the language used by the BJP leaders about the community is highly condemnable as it has hurt the sentiments of the community. |
