| Transfers in Education department on sale, MCC violated with impunity | | Aggrieved urge State Election Commissioner to seize record register | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Mar 7: In a bid to vitiate the process of free and fair elections in the State, the Education department of the State has started affecting transfers of teachers/masters through back dated orders in brazen defiance of the model code of conduct that came into force on March 5. As per the details reaching Early Times, from various Districts of Jammu as well from Kashmir region, the transfers in Education Department are on sale and have created ripples among the teachers/masters having no political approach. As per the sources, over 2500 transfers of teachers/masters/headmasters/lecturers/principals of various schools have been made in the state during last few days. The sources said that many teachers/masters have been transferred in violation of Government transfer policy and in some cases the stay of the transferred employees is less than three months. The sources said that the transfers are being made with full consent of the political masters in each District, while in non political cases hefty amount is being charged from the aspirants in lieu of transfer. If the sources are to be believed, 30000 to 50000 are being charged for a transfer of a master at post of his choice while 20000 to 30000 are being charged for transfers of teachers. The sources further informed that the officials of the Education department preempting the imposition of model code of conduct had kept some dispatch numbers unassigned so that they could be used for issuing such orders. The sources further said over half a dozen masters were posted at Higher Secondary Chokki Chowra, but all the orders were later modified within days before MCC came into the force. The sources said that even in case of posting of principals, favoritism was adopted while making the orders and principals with no political/financial backing were posted in remote and inaccessible areas of Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Reasi, Kargil, Ladakh, Kupwara, Rajouri and Poonch Districts. If insiders are to be believed, the master engaged by the Deputy Chief Minister who also happens to be the Education Minister to teach his children at home was transferred to Ladakh within 10 to 15 days of his adjustment as master on promotion at a local school in Jammu. Several teachers and Masters while talking to "Early Times" expressed their resentment on irrational transfers being done in Education Department by issuing post dated orders. They demanded immediate cancellation of all the orders issued in last few weeks. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, however, was not available for comment as his phone was continuously switched off from last few days. |
