| `Rahul imposed alliance decision on reluctant State Congress' | | Azad bats for going to LA polls alone | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Mar 7: Even as pre-poll alliance between Congress and National Conference seems on cards, local Congress leaders accuse Rahul Gandhi of imposing the arrangement on them. According to them Gandhi ignored the JKPCC Panel and went ahead with his decision. But, sources within Congress said Ghulam Nabi Azad managed to put alliance for Assembly polls on hold for the time being. Sources said that a list of names framed by State Congress leadership which include Salman Soz, Taj Mohi-ud-din, Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Peerzada Mohammad Syed and Bashir Ahmad Magray was in consideration of JKPCC and was even forwarded to the Congress core group for final nod Rahul Gandhi decided in favour of the alliance to appease Omar Abdullah who happens to be his close friend. Sources said he is adamant on a similar alliance for Assembly polls. Sources said that Azad did not intervene much in forming alliance for Lok sabha elections but has vehemently opposed alliance for Assembly polls. Sources also added that though NC has already announced its candidates which include Farooq Abdullah from Srinagar, Mehboob Beg from South and Sharif-ul-Din Shariq from North Kashmir, however Congress is though likely to repeat its candidates Madan Lal Sharma from Jammu and Chowdhary Lal Singh from Udhampur, yet for Ladakh it many go with Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai who is presently holding the charge of Chief Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) of Kargil District. Pertinently as per reports, it would be for the third time that Congress would be contesting Lok Sabha elections in alliance with a regional party in Jammu and Kashmir State. |
