| Unauthorized parking at Mubarak Mandi site | | Authorities adopt laxity to keep one politician in good humour.....? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 7 : The issue of unauthorized parking at historic Mubarak mandi complex came up once again in the 22nd meeting of Executive Committee of Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society (MMJHS) which was held here today with the Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who is also the Chairman of the Committee, in the chair. And once again apart from other key issues, perpetual mess on account of unauthorised parking came up as a matter of serious discussion. In a rhetorical way serious note was taken by the minister who is learnt to have sought immediate steps to clear the mess off the site. The moot question remains as to who the minister gave these instructions and who are the authorities which would take any desirable action....? The issue of unauthorized parking at Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex has come up umpteenth number of times in the so called high level meetings in recent past, earlier in one chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself. The broad contour boiled down to the fact that parking around the entire complex poses serious and severe threat to this historic monument which has ironically been declared by the government as a protected heritage structure having magnificent ancient structures and buildings. It bore no result till date in terms of providing any reprieve to the Society from this nuisance. A temporary phase in consequence of CM's instructions came up when parking was banned which presented a decent and somewhat serene look to the majestic grandeur of historic site. But that did not last longer as after some time vehicles made entry without resistance from any quarter. Interestingly, the way parking 'business' is happening at the site, no official or any department takes responsibility nor do they care to look into the matter to see who is operating this and allowing hundreds of vehicles to remain parked every day. Ironically, in the meeting today it was conveyed to the minister that Police has been asked not to allow entry of any vehicles for the parking purpose. One wonders if that was the case, who stops police from taking firm action and why concerned authorities at the helm are not seriously helping this mess get sorted out. If sources are to be believed, this mess can never get evicted from the historic site which is not only posing threat to ongoing construction and hurdle in renovation work but also posing impediment to Museum entrance. Sources said even though CM and concerned minister have sought this step to be taken as a serious business, concerned bureaucrat at the helm is avoiding to do so ,albeit under some political pressure. Sources said he is reportedly not doing so as one of the politician of Jammu has vested interest in it who is allowing this also to retain and keep his vote bank happy. The question remains can this protected monument of historic significance and great value be allowed to remain surrounded by messy crowd of haphazardly parked vehicles just for the sake of keeping any politician in good humour.....? |
