Poll 2014: BJP, Panthers, Cong contesting to woo West Pak refugees
3/9/2014 12:03:52 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 8 : Besides BJP the Congress, Panthers Party and the even the lesser known BSP also are in a contest to woo West Pakistan refugees in order to ensure their support for the candidates fielded by these four parties for the ensuing Lok Sabha poll in two constituencies in the Jammu region.
According to political observers though the valley centric parties like the National Conference and the PDP have been opposed to the demand of West Pakistan Refugees for granting citizenship rights yet the leaders of the two parties too have started securing support from these refugees.
Meanwhile in a bid to take edge upon the rival political parties to begin with the pro-refugee campaign the BJP leadership has begun interacting with the Pak refugees. "Realising the importance of West Pakistan refugees, Rajya Sabha member and in charge of J&K BJP Avinash Rai Khanna has met Labha Ram Gandhi, who heads the Association of the Refugees at his residence to seek his support but he failed to get any positive assurance, sources said.
According to reports, Gandhi has decided to play safe because he knows it fully well that during the last over 40 years even the Jammu centric political parties have failed to fight for "legitimate cause of refugees." All the political parties, aspiring to filed its candidates from Jammu and Udhampur constituencies, feel the gravity of the vote of refugees and of the 37 Assembly segments which fall under the two Lok Sabha seats of the Jammu province, West Pakistan refugees have their markets presence in 20 segments. And keeping in view that these refugees factor can tilt the scale in favour of one or the other candidate political parties are competing each other to gain an edge over other.
