| Flip side of BJP legislators 'strategy' inside Assembly | | Politically naive or driven by camaraderie spirit .....? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 8: At a time when BJP is trying hard to capture and consolidate the political position with polls on mind, its legislators have conducted themselves in a way inside the Assembly which has raised many a eyebrows besides annoying Kashmiri Pandits across the globe. The way BJP legislators clubbed with ruling allies National Conference and Congress in stalling the Temple Bill has surprised in as much as the manner they shared the opposition forum with Panthers party legislators, notwithstanding the fact that both parties stand poles apart. It is not however for the first time that BJP legislators have behaved in a surprising and unexpected manner inside the House or while moving in the corridors of power. For reasons more for the sake of personal gains and motives, BJP legislators have done it in the past too and instances are fresh to recollect which bear testimony to allegation that when BJP leaders enter civil secretariat they stand poles apart on all issues from what they pose and project before masses outside. Everytime they do it, they stand exposed -befooling and hoodwinking the people. Joining the chorus of NC and Congress, while Panthers Party resisted tooth and nail passage of Temple Bill for whatever explanations, BJP too sang in the same tone, with their contention ambiguous and seemingly loaded with some unfounded apprehensions which the legislators could not describe in a clear manner. Their conduct simply shocked the protaganists of Temple Bill as the step to ensure protection of religious places in Kashmir valley. Although a couple of legislators a day later came out with a certain clarification of not opposed to the aim and objectives of the Bill, this could not cover up the damage they made, annoying a large section, including its own party leaders. What cause the BJP legislators were driven by and what prompted them to share the concern of all others remains interesting to find out. However, the point in case here remains that it was seen as one more instance in direction of BJP making a common cause with other parties on issues on which it should have its own political understanding and comprehension. The legislators , for instance supported the Panthers Party legislators on a cause which they were remotely connected. When Panthers Party MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia brought privilege motion against Udhampur DC, all the BJP legislators promptly extended their support to him, without perhaps knowing the reason behind the motion. All they did so was perhaps to express 'solidarity' with fellow legislators, no matter they (PP) seldom come out with such gestures in support of BJP over any issue. One wonders, if BJP legislators are too naive and ignorant about the issues on which they extend support and make a common cause inside the power corridors as also within the House or they do it for some other reasons. While these are two politically insignificant matters on which BJP MLAs' conduct has invited criticism, in the past they have committed blunders which have dented the party image beyond repairs. The silent (deliberate or unconsciously) approach of party at the time of passage of a vital bill brought by NC in the same House which freezing delimitation exercise until the year 2026 had stunned everyone. If they are really naive or ignorant about repercussion of such conduct, the question arises that are they actually fit to be inside the House as representatives of people....? |
