| Kashmiri Pandit Sabha's positive stand | | Temples & Shrines Bill | | Neha JAMMU, Mar 8: Notwithstanding the ongoing controversy over the Hindu Temples and Shrines Bill, 2009, and the views and counter views, the stand which Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) on March 7 took on the issue was very positive. Of course, the members of the Sabha expressed concern over the rejection of the Temples and Shrines, but the manner in which it reflected on the whole issue was quite appreciative. "While alliance legislators tactically sent it back to the subcommittee, the opposition scuttled it comprehensively as if heavens were about to fall. Members were of the opinion the least that could have been done was to pass the Bill with the desired amendments so as to give an indication to the minority community that their concerns have largely been attended to and that they have also taken due consideration of the apprehensions expressed by various trusts and other religious bodies. By summarily rejecting the bill the legislators have shown utter disregard to the sentiments of Kashmiri Pandit community and have failed to perform their Raj Dharma". Just look at the statement that the Bill could have been passed with the "desired amendments so as to give an indication to the minority community that their concerns have largely been attended to and that they have also taken due consideration of the apprehensions expressed by various trusts and other religious bodies" and one would conclude in no time that the Sabha would also like a legislation that also addresses the concerns of what it called "various trusts and religious bodies". This should be the spirit considering the larger interest of the community. Now that the Sabha has taken a stand that is positive and holistic, it is time for all the Hindu organizations, including the organizations of the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, to join hands, work in unison and evolve a broader consensus so that the Government is forced to adopt a legislation to protect the symbols of Hindu identity, culture and religion. They have to work as one body to defeat those in the Government who wish to create schism in the minority community. |
