Jammu, Mar 8: To commemorate International Women's Day, Jammu and Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts, Jammu today organized 'National Exhibition of Paintings' by Women Painters at Viraj Art Gallery, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Chairperson J&K Social Welfare Board Khem, Lata Wakhlu inaugurated the exhibition.GR Hasrat Gadda, Gen. Secretary, FUNKAR Cultural Organization was the Special Guest on this occasion. As many 17 women painters from different states of the country participated in this exhibition. The exhibition was dedicated in the memory of late Gobind Kaur, a well known sculptor and print maker of the state and a student of Vidya Ratan Khajuria, a renowned sculptor of the state. Gobind Kaur has contributed a lot in the field of Sculpture in the country and was awarded and honoured for her work. Main awards she received include: J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Literature State Awards; All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society, N. Delhi and Cultural Academy combine Award; Lalit Kala Akademi, N Delhi and Cultural Academy combine Award; Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar Award; Faculty of Fine Arts, Banaras University; Maha Koushal Kala Prishad, Raipur Award; South Central Cultural Zone award, Nagpur Award etc. The Chief Guest was welcomed by OP Sharma, Director of J&KCCA. While highlighting the achievements of the centre he said that the centre has already organised State and National level programmes on art, literature and culture. The main aim behind organizing such exhibition is to bring closer the artists community from different corner of the country and to recognize the potential and talent of women of the country. Smt. Raj Bharti, President, Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu also spoke on this occasion. |
