| Guru's Hanging: Farooq fixes blame on then Home Secretary | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 31: Union Minister and National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah has suggested that a Home Secretary is more powerful than even the Prime Minister as he blamed former Union Home Secretary RK Singh for hanging Afzal Guru. Former Home Secretary has now joined BJP. The decision to hang Afzal Guru was taken by the Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, with whom Singh didn't have cordial decision. The media reports had suggested Omar Abdullah was informed well in advance about the scheduled execution who had according to the reports suggested that Guru should be hanged during Chila-e-Kalan (severe winter period) so that law and order could be contained as people will prefer to stay indoors. Farooq Abdullah who himself has been the Chief Minister and Union Minister has by this statement suggested that decisions are taken by bureaucrats rather than the political leadership. Farooq being a head of the State and in thorough knowledge of the governance is clearly telling lies on this account. He has through this statement tried to bring Azad also in the loop by suggesting that even he was not apprised of the decision. Farooq, who is apparently frustrated , after his suggestion to Omar to move to the Centre was categorically rejected by him, is making baseless statement to stay relevant but in the process is hurting political space of Omar Abdullah. Farooq had earlier said BJP is trying to abrogate Art 370, while the latter had only suggested a debate on it and despite the fact that Omar was in Cabinet of the Vajpayee. Now by suggesting that it was RK Singh who hanged Guru, he has inadvertently suggested that Omar is too weak to taken on even a Home Secretary. |
