| Old, oft-repeated issues surface only during poll process in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 31 : As the Lok Sabha polling days are nearing old issues and old slogans have started renting the state.Apart from clash of ideas and exchange of charges and counter charges between the NC and the PDP and between the NC-Congress alliance and the BJP, issues related to Article 370, autonomy and self-rule continue to be raked up by the mainstream political leaders. However, with BJP trying to register its presence in the poll process in the Kashmir valley for the first time the party leaders have diluted their stand on Article 370,which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir within the union of India. Instead of demanding immediate revocation of Article 370 the BJP unit in Kashmir seems to have followed Narendra Modi line by telling people in the valley that the fate of Article 370 deserves to be decided after a detailed debate and discussion. They say if people believe that the Article is going to help people let iot be retained. As far as the National Conference is concerned its roar against demand for revocation of Article 370 is louder in the Kashmir valley than in the Jammu region. It is so because of two factors first the party has not fielded any candidate from the two constituencies and secondly it does not want to hurt the Congress, with which it has framed a pr e-poll alliance, when the Congress view on the issue, at least in the Jammu region, is well known. But the PDP does not have any such limitations. It s leadership continues to believe that self-rule could resolve both internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir problem. What keeps majority of voters undecided is the outcome of their complaint that these issues surface during the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections and after the poll process is over political leaders forget all these issues. |
