Benia of JKP lifts Moori Kesari dangal title

JAMMU, Mar 31: Jammu and Kashmir Police wrester, Benia lifted the 59th Annual Moori Kesari title outplaying Rimpal of Amritsar in Punjab in a tough bout that lasted for 23 minutes at Moori in district Reasi. Dangal was organized by Moori Peer Baba Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
District Development Commissioner Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was the chief guest, who distributed cash prizes among the winners and runner-up wrestlers. The chief guest, presented Rs 20,000 cash prize to Benia while runners-up Rimpal got Rs 17,000.
Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided.
Naib Tehsildar, Rakesh Baru was guest of honour. Sarpanches Balwan Singh, Jagdish Chander, Mohd Sadiq, Rattan Singh Raj Hussain, R S Manhas, Naresh Kumar and Varinder Sharma were also present.
In all, 58 bouts played in this day-long dangal. The second main bout went to Kaka of Amritsar, who defeated Khushwant of Haryana. While Kaka presented with Rs 13,000, Khushwant received Rs 12,000 as cash prize.
The third bout won by Sukha of Rajasthan beating Gurpreet of Amritsar. Sukha got Rs 12,000 while Gurpreet handed over cash prize of 12,000. Kamaljeet (Rs 7500) of Khanna defeated Kallu (Rs 5,000) of Bishnah in Jammu in the fourth main bout.
Moori Peer Baba Dangal Committee members and technical officials who helped for conduct of this vishal dangal were Badri Nath, Sarpanch Romesh Chander (president), Om Parkash, Mohan Singh, Sukhdev Sharma, Bodh Raj, Parshotam Sharma, Birbal Sharma, Chuni Lal, Rajinder Kumar, Vijay Singh (Biju). Mohd Fareed, Raj Singh, Murli Dhar (Munna) and Om Parkash Sharma as also Allaha Mai (Ranga), Mohd Sadiq and Raj Hussain.
Other Results: Jakker of Sarore beat Roshan Lal of Muthi (Jammu); Sonu of Amritsar beat Murad Ali of Domana; Mohit of Harayana beat Parhald Singh of Kalakot; Amir Khan of Jammu beat Pardeep of Khanna; Gurjeet of Amritsar beat Bagga of Jammu; Ajay Kumar of laden Power House Udhampur beat Nissar of Doda; Akram of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu beat Farooq of Sarore; Kulbir Singh of Narkot beat Rustam of Domana; Billa of Jindrah beat Sohan Singh of Narkot; Salman of Udhampur beat Sher Singh of Judda; Jamal Ali of Narkote beat Tirthu of Reasi; Rajesh Sharma of J&K Police beat Kuldeep Singh of Ladda. Bout between Bobri of Sarore and Rana of Amritsar ended in a draw.


BCCI members demand SGM for discussing developments

Mumbai, Mar 31: Some BCCI members have demanded the convening of a Special General Meeting of the Board to take stock of the situation in the wake of Supreme Court`s order replacing N Srinivasan by interim President Sunil Gavaskar to look after IPL 7 affairs.
"Yes. It`s not a requisition meeting, but some of us have demanded that SGM be convened to discuss the developments. I wrote to BCCI soon after the Court suggested the name of Gavaskar," a top official of BCCI`s affliliated unit told PTI today. "But I am not sure whether the meeting can be convened or not because the matter is sub-judice," the official said, adding that it was not a move to requisition a meeting but of members acting in their individual capacities.
Last week, a bench of Justices A K Patnaik and F M I Kalifulla replaced Srinivasan with Gavaskar as the interim president for managing the affairs of IPL 7 commencing in UAE on April 16 until a decision is taken in IPL betting and spot-fixing case.

Param FC gets walkover in football

JAMMU, Mar 31: Param Football Club got walkover Heroes Club to advance in the next round of the ongoing Ist Vishal Heer Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Young Heroes Club at GGM Science College ground, here today.
However, the Param FC played a friendly match with a combined side of players from different clubs to the satisfaction of the selected football lovers gathered at the venue to witness the scheduled game. In this friendly game Param FC emerged victorious.
"Since Young Heroes failed to report the venue in the given time, we had left with no other option but to award walkover to Param FC," organising secretary of the tournament, Rajesh Sumbria said. Now, in the next scheduled match for tomorrow at the same venue at 3.30 pm, Jammu United shall take on Vijay Heroes.

Jammu district wins State Korfball trophy

JAMMU, Mar 31: Beating district Samba 17-12 (ht 7-5) in the final, Jammu district clinched the 11th State Korfball Championship, organised by J&K Korfball Association at Green Field ground, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Felcus played fine game for Jammu district scoring highest four goals while Irfan and Mohit added three each. From Samba, Ashwini remained top scorer with five goals, followed by Diksha, who contributed four.
The third place went to district Pulwama, who beat their counterparts from Anantnag in the hardliner.
In the final, Director General, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Navin Aggarwal was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies.
Earlier, working president of the Association, Tarlok Singh welcomed the distinguished gathering and presented a brief report of the three-day event.
General secretary of the Association, Manjit Singh presented vote of thanks. Prominent among others present were RK Sharma, BS Tirthi, Mohamad Shaffi, Madan Lal, SK Sharma and Salamat Choudhary.

Contractor completes work on pool

JAMMU, Mar 31: The construction agency, assigned with the task to re-build the swimming pool at MA Stadium, here, has almost compete the work on the pool in the given deadline of March 31.
Now, it becomes the responsibility of the State Sports Council to set in place the changing rooms and showers, which are presently in a bad shape.
"We have managed to complete meet the deadline of March 31 to complete the work on pool. The filtration plant, part of the assigned project Rs 1.78 crore, is on way and will be installed very soon," Civil Engineer with the Jallandhar based company, Aquatech, Bhupinder Singh said.
With the completion of work on the pool, those linked with the game of swimming seem hopeful of start of the season in the mid of May.
"Since the construction of pool is complete and filtration plant, as per the construction agency, would be installed before April 15, we are hopeful of resuming the swimming classes after a gap of three years," a senior attendant of the swimming pool informed.
Important to mention here that the depth of the pool has been reduced from 20 feet to eight-feet with no dividing boards so as to make it an exclusive competitive swimming pool.
Constructed in 1992, the existing swimming pool at the MA Stadium remained incomplete during all these years in the absence of learners' pool, a pre-requisite for a full-size pool.



Sampark Economical Development Society Organises Free Medical Camp

JAMMU, Mar 31: Sampark Economical Development Society conducted a free medical camp at Bhutey Chak. The free medical camp was inaugurated by Nisha Verma President of the society. The Camp provided free medical check up and medicines to more than 900 people, hailing from Bhutey chak, Ram Bagh and others near by areas of Mandal Satwari (Block Marh). A team of doctors Dr.Y.P Gupta, Dr. Ankur Gupta (Dental Surgon) and Dr. Sanya Rashid provided medical care to the people during the camp. Smt Nisha verma,President of the society promised to organize more such camps in remote areas of Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi and Kathua Districts in the near future to cater for medical needs of people hailing from poorer sections of the society during the camp special focus was given to dental related problem.
Ram Singh (President) Tawi welfare committee, B.R Radhay Pt. Gardhari Lal appreciated this noble initiative by the society in providing free medical aid to them at their door step. At the end Shifali Sharma project officer Of the society presented vote of thanks.
